Bugs

  1. Three different titles for one page SEO · consistency

H1: «…المتاجر والحِرف المحلية في المدينة المنورة». Breadcrumb: «…دليل المتاجر والحِرف المحلية». The H1 also says المدينة twice, which makes it wrap to 5 lines on a 375px phone.

Redesign: one title everywhere, «صُنع في المدينة: دليل المتاجر والحِرف المحلية», 32px on mobile so it fits in 2–3 lines.

  2. Breadcrumb “المسارات” goes to the coffee-shops page navigation

The link points to /coffee-shops, so users trying to go up one level land on an unrelated listing.

Redesign: breadcrumb moved above the title, every crumb points to its own level, current page marked with aria-current.

  3. The same shop is listed twice data

بازار المدينة appears under Gifts and again under Arts with a different description, and its label switches from ساعات العمل to أوقات العمل. The Arts section contains nothing else.

Redesign: one entry, placed in Arts where its description belongs. Unique count is 15 shops, shown in the hero.

  4. Broken heading outline a11y

The page jumps from H1 to H3; the only H2 is the newsletter. Sections 2–4 wrap a <strong> inside the H3 and section 1 doesn’t. The 16 shop names are bold text inside one <p> with line breaks, so screen-reader users can’t jump between shops.

Redesign: H1 → H2 per category → H3 per shop. Each shop is its own <article> card.

  5. Images say “Image”; logo says “maneuver” a11y

All four category photos have alt="Image". The header and footer logos have alt="مناورة", a misspelling that means “maneuver”, not المُنوَّرة.

Redesign: every photo has a descriptive alt and a visible caption where it adds context. (Fix logo alt in the shared header/footer component.)

  6. Stray empty node and copy errors in shared chrome polish

A lone “,” paragraph at 22px sits in the weather/date bar. The newsletter consent reads «توافق على شروطنا سياسة الخصوصية»: the “and” is missing and شروطنا isn’t a link.

Redesign: «بالاشتراك، توافق على شروط الاستخدام وسياسة الخصوصية» with both linked.

UX problems

  1. A 8,000px wall of text with no way to navigate wayfinding

The page is 8,051px tall on desktop and 9,215px on mobile. There is no table of contents, no category jump, no filter and no back-to-section control.

Redesign: sticky category guide with live counts and scroll-spy on desktop; on mobile it turns into a sticky chip bar under the header.

  2. This is a directory, but it reads like an essay information design

People come to pick a shop: what it sells, whether it’s open, how to reach it. Name, description, hours and link run together in one paragraph at the same size.

Redesign: shop cards with a fixed anatomy: name, Latin name, channel badge, description, then a footer with hours status and a clear “visit store” button.

  3. Hours can’t answer “is it open now?” utility

Hours are free text in six different formats («5:00 صباحاً»، «8 صباحاً»، «5 مساءً حتى 2 صباحاً»…), no days, no time zone.

Redesign: hours stored as data, shown in one format, with a computed open/closed status in Madinah time and an “open now” filter.

  4. Online vs. physical shop is unclear expectations

Some entries are websites, some are Instagram accounts, some are a factory or physical shop with no address. The link label is always just الرابط.

Redesign: channel badge (متجر إلكتروني / إنستغرام / متجر ومعرض), a filter for online ordering, and a clear text button (زيارة المتجر / فتح حساب إنستغرام). Next step: add a map link for physical locations.

  5. Full-screen hero hides the content first view

The hero fills 100% of the viewport with only the title and a scroll-mouse icon (also shown on phones). No summary, date, count or reading time.

Redesign: content-height hero with title, one-line summary, meta row (15 shops · 4 categories · 5 min · data updated), primary CTA and share.

  6. No freshness signal on business data trust

Hours and links go stale. There’s no “last updated” date and no way to report a wrong entry.

Redesign: “data updated” in the hero, time-zone note and a “report inaccurate info” link at the end.

  7. External links give no cue links

Links are bare domains in body text (22px green) with no external-link icon; one shows the full https://instagram.com/…, the rest don’t.

Redesign: one button style per shop with a plain-text label and an external-link icon.

  8. No sharing, no next step engagement

The article ends at the newsletter. A guide like this gets sent to visitors and friends, but there’s no share or copy-link.

Redesign: “copy guide link” in the hero. Recommended next: related guides (coffee shops, heritage sites) before the newsletter.

UI / visual

  1. Body type too big and too tight for Arabic typography

Every paragraph is 22px / line-height: normal, on desktop and on a 375px phone alike. Arabic needs more leading than Latin; at 22px on mobile a line holds about 20 characters.

Redesign: 18px lead, 16px body, 15px card text, all at 1.8–1.85 line height; measure capped near 65 characters.

  2. One weight for everything hierarchy

Shop name, “ساعات العمل:” and “الرابط:” are all 22px semibold, so labels compete with names. Bilingual names use a pipe (مَعْلم | Malam) in the same style.

Redesign: Arabic name in the title face at 20px, Latin name as a quieter 13px line in Montserrat, labels replaced by icons and status.

  3. Inconsistent labels between sections consistency

“الرابط:” is bold in sections 2–4 but plain in section 1. Taibah Gifts is missing the colon after ساعات العمل.

Redesign: every card is rendered from the same template, so these can’t drift.

  4. Images: low resolution, no placeholder media

Category photos are served at w=828 into an 846px slot (soft on 2× screens); the hero source is 1270px wide stretched full-bleed. Lazy images leave blank white blocks while scrolling.

Redesign: fixed aspect ratios with a tinted placeholder. Request w=1920 for 2× and a 2560px hero master.

  5. Unbalanced sections IA

Gifts has 8 entries, Products 5, Fashion 2, Arts 1 (the duplicate). Each section carries the same 476px photo regardless.

Redesign: wider, shorter 21:9 banners and counts in the guide so small sections read as intentional. Content team should add 2–3 shops to Fashion and Arts.

  6. Off-scale spacing and no grid layout

Article column is 846px centred with no relation to the 12-column header. Gaps between shop entries vary with paragraph breaks.

Redesign: 12-column grid (3 rail + 9 content), 4px spacing scale, 16px gaps between cards, 64px between sections.

  7. Interactive states missing states

Text links have no hover change beyond the cursor; there is no visible focus style on links in the article body.

Redesign: hover, focus-visible (gold ring) and active states on cards, chips, buttons and links.

Content & data to verify with the client

  1. أسوة للهدايا opens at 5:00 AM?

Listed as 5:00 AM – midnight. Likely a typo for 5:00 PM, or post-Fajr hours. Confirm.

Kept as published in the redesign.

  2. المدينة درِس labelled “online store, 24/7”

It’s an Instagram account for renting traditional dresses; “24/7 online store” sets the wrong expectation.

Shown as an Instagram account with “by appointment” hours.

  3. Physical shops have no address

مصنع هدية المدينة, طيبة للهدايا, أنا المدينة and معمول تحلية have opening hours but no location.

Add a district and a Google Maps link per shop.

  4. Hours have no days or seasonal note

No weekly closing day, no Ramadan or Hajj-season hours.

Redesign adds a time-zone and seasonal disclaimer; the data model can take days later.

  5. Brand name spelled two ways

The shop «المنوّرة | AlMunawara» vs. the site «المُنوَّرة» / ALMUNAWARAH. Fine if it’s a different entity, but worth a one-line note so readers don’t think it’s the site’s own store.

Left as the shop’s own name.
